While promoting his new memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs One Story, Bono talks about his father a lot, and actually says he has changed his mind about him.

He adds: Many men find it difficult to relate to their fathers. I’m trying to be a good father to my children, but it’s hard if you haven’t built that kind of relationship yourself, so I’m working on that.
Bono’s mother died when Bono was just 14 years old. Bono and his siblings “don’t have many memories of her mother,” he says, because her father didn’t talk much about her after she died. But thanks to this book, he says, “I found her again.”
“I have some beautiful memories of discovering. She was amazing and I made peace with all of that,” he says. I couldn’t be in and my life wouldn’t be without everything that’s here.So I’m so grateful to be able to go to Christmas for everything,” from both my father and mother.
