Hacker Sets Career High, EKU Falls to Boston College


Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts – Eastern Kentucky Women’s Basketball had a hard-fought match Tuesday morning against Boston College (9-4, 0-1 ACC), but fell short of a 76-65 decision inside the Conte Forum.

The loss moves EKU to a season 4-6 (.400), heading to Army West Point on Sunday for one of the final three non-conference games of the season.

Emma Hacker She scored 22 on 4-for-6 (.400) shooting from the three-point line, leading the Colonels and tying her career high. The Frenchburg, Kentucky native added seven rebounds and her career-high five blocks.

Daniel Rainey With 13 points against the Eagles, he totaled his second consecutive performance in double-digit scoring.

Marissa Mackins Making his first start for Eastern Kentucky, he added 10 points and 4 assists in the contest.

As both teams entered their first quarter media timeouts, the Colonel jumped to a quick start and outscored BC 9-4. 3 from bridged fox EKU held their biggest lead of the day, eight points, with just over a minute remaining. Boston College ended the quarter with his 4-0 run and gave EKU his 22-18 first down.

Boston College quickly regained control of the contest by scoring the first six points in the second quarter. Another three of his runs from Hacker gave him the final lead of the game at 25-24 with 7:23 remaining for EKU. Back-to-back 3s from BC’s Taina Mare gave the Eagles a 7-point advantage over the Colonels. The two teams exchanged baskets with two minutes remaining and BC walked away with a 12-point advantage over EKU at 42-30.

Both teams struggled to get into an attacking rhythm from half-time, scoring seven consecutive BC points after putting the home side 16 points up after the third quarter media timeout. Hacker scored and 1 with her one minute left on the clock to stop the bleeding, setting her season-high points in the process.

The Eagles extended their lead to 20 in the fourth quarter, winning the Conte Forum’s Education Day in front of 1,400 fans. Hacker and Rainey combined 9 of his 18 points for EKU in the final frame.

Eastern Kentucky will continue its road swing in a game against Army on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 1:00 PM ET at Krystle Arena. Sunday’s contest will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can watch it on The Varsity Network app.
