Holmes matches career-high in points as Dayton beats Fordham on road – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

BRONX, NY — The Dayton Flyers got another solid performance from Daron Holmes II on Tuesday night, beating the Fordham Rams 82-58 at the Rose Hill Gymnasium in Bronx, NY.

Holmes equaled his career high with 32 points and six rebounds. He scored his 12-15 shooting and made 8-10 free throws. Tumani Camara scored his 15th and he added eight of his rebounds, spending most of the first half with two fouls before he scored all in the second half.

Guard Kobe Blair came off the bench for UD, scoring 12 points, grabbing 7 rebounds and making all four 3-point attempts. Blair is from Washington, N.Y. He’s from Heights, so it was homecoming.

The Flyers have improved to 12-5 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 and are now on a seven-game winning streak.

Dayton scored the first 12 points of the game and did not trail until the end. RJ Blakney’s steal and dunk gave them a 4-0 lead. Holmes scored his fourth straight point and Fordham forced a timeout as UD led by his 10-0.

Blair knocked Trey down in succession to increase the Flyers’ lead to 18-4. His steal set up a Jimi Nuwokezi dunk and he extended to 22-4 with 9:12 remaining in the first half.

Kyle Rose filled a 3 for Fordham to put the Rams up 11, 22-11, but Dayton extended their advantage to 33-18 at halftime.

Kamara scored nine points to start the second half as UD pushed the lead to 48-27 with 13:48 remaining. Fordham made back-to-back 3-point shots to cut him down to 48-33, but a dunk after Kamara beat Press put him at 50-33 with 12:57 left.

The Flyers took back-to-back dunks from Holmes and Kamala to move the score to 56-38. The Rams trailed 63-51 in the second half, closing in on 12 points with 6:19 remaining. But Holmes and Amgil combined gave him 10 straight points, which he extended to 73-51 and never looked back.

RJ Blakney scored four points but held Fordham’s leading scorer, Darius Quisenberry, to three. Mustafa Amjil scored his 8th and Jiminu Wokezi his 7th. Mike Sharabjamtu and Kobe Blair each had 5 assists.

Dayton went 29-45 shooting and posted 64%. Also, three-pointers he marked 6-14 from the range and 18-23 from the foul line. UD outbounded 33-31.

The Flyers’ next game is Friday night at UD Arena at VCU.Tip off is 9pm
