PHOENIX — Returning after missing seven games with a hip injury, Chris Paul tallied 22 points and 11 assists to lead the Phoenix Suns 112-110 over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.
The Suns had to hold on in the final minutes after dominating most of the night. They had a 32-18 lead by the end of the first quarter, and at one point in the third quarter he had a 29-point lead.
The Grizzlies cut to their advantage and Ziaire Williams Hit a 79-foot heave on the buzzer in the 3rd quarter Slice the Suns reeds to 87-72.
Memphis pulled to within 107-101 with 2:21 remaining, but Kam Johnson responded by making a jumper during the foul. He completed a three-point play on a free throw to help the Suns regain control briefly.
The Grizzlies had one run left. Desmond’s Bain free throws saw him close the margin to his 110-106 with 58.8 seconds remaining. After a Phoenix turnover, Ja Morant was fouled, and he made two free throws with 28.6 seconds to go before he cut to 110-108.
The Grizzlies finally ran out of time as Phoenix forward Dario Saric hit two free throws after being fouled on possession.
The Suns are on a three-game winning streak and are back at .500 this season. The Grizzlies lost their second straight after the Lakers ended their 11-game winning streak on Friday.
Mychal Bridges led the Suns with 24 points, while Torrey Craig scored a season-high 20 points. Morant scored 27 and Bain scored 24 for the Grizzlies.
The Suns have been closer to full power than they have been in recent weeks, but All-Star guard Devin Booker is still out with a groin injury. I have played my second game since then.
Paul scored 17 points in the first half to lead the Suns to a 62–37 halftime lead. The Grizzlies were shooting just 15-of-50 (30%) before the break.
