Patriots safety Devin McCourty elaborates on post-playing career plans

New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty makes big decisions ahead of the offseason.

Retirement is being considered for the safety of the 35-year-old as the Patriots are set to go through many changes. Despite his age, McCourty played at a high level in the 2022 season, recording a total of 71 tackles and four interceptions that year. This included an interception against the Buffalo Bills in the season finale.

Nonetheless, Safety has been contemplating retiring from a productive career in recent weeks.

He has already quashed rumors that he might become a coach after his playing days. He elaborated on what to do.

“When the season is over, really just give it time, not rush it,” McCourty said. “Now that the season is over, I’m trying to test the next phase and see what it’s like to work on TV. I went to New York and did CBS. Join the network to see how it all feels and how it all works. Let’s see what happens.

“I’m not 100% sure either way, but I know you want to take your time. You do something for 13 years, and I don’t want to make any hasty decisions. I have time and I’m trying to understand everything.”

McCourty commented that he would return to New England once Tom Brady returned to finish his career as a Patriot.

Regardless, if he decides to retire, New England has a huge hole to fill. His impact on the organization on and off the field will never be forgotten.
