Thompson was a four-star quarterback at Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri. Thompson said he was the No. 2 player in Missouri and in the 2016 class he was the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback. Thompson appeared in 46 games during high school, passing for 6,222 yards and he passed for 71 touchdowns. Thompson’s dual-threat ability came into play during his senior year when he rushed for his 21 touchdowns and his over 1,000 yards.
