New Year is here! Along with that, more people are looking for new job opportunities and looking at career possibilities in transit.
Melissa Anderson, who works in the Employee Engagement Department at Community Transit, said: “Especially those working in healthcare, retail, warehousing, and customer service roles.”
A recent Gallup poll found that rising costs are causing financial hardship for more than half of U.S. households. Many want more income and job security. So where are those opportunities?
“Community Transit is looking for new bus drivers. No professional driving experience required. New drivers earn a $5,000 sign-on bonus and $32.57 per hour after training. And then the wages go up from there,” says Anderson. “And benefits such as employee pensions and tuition reimbursement help people plan for the future.”
Lance Lewis, who joined Community Transit in 2020 as a chauffeur, says the support made the transition easy.
“They’re here to support you. They’ll teach you everything you need to know to get CDL certified.” [commercial driver’s license]It makes you feel at home from day one. “
Before driving routes and passengers, bus drivers take a 10-week paid course to prepare them for the job.
Community Transit Chief Operating Officer Mark Holmes said: “That’s why we take the time to thoroughly vette and train every driver we hire. I am ready for my career.”
Since its inception, Lewis has been promoted to Vanpool Financial & Data Specialist in Community Transit’s Customer Experience Division.
“Growing in an organization that values the skills and experience of its frontline employees and provides professional growth opportunities is extremely rewarding,” says Lewis.
“Being a driver is often just the first step in a career here,” says Anderson. “We hire dispatchers, supervisors and bus driver trainers from our pool of bus drivers. We need drivers now and in the future, but we also need other positions because of the opportunities for growth.”
The agency is also recruiting for other roles, such as mechanics and service ambassadors. Job seekers are invited to join her next bi-weekly Virtual Career Chat. Join RSVP.
“I encourage anyone looking for a fulfilling job that offers opportunities, great benefits and wages, and a supportive company culture to apply,” says Lewis.
