Trevor Lawrence is the youngest starting quarterback left in the playoffs, but has been in the spotlight longer than some others.
Lawrence had already led Clemson to a national championship when Joe Burrow wrapped up the historic Heisman Trophy season in 2019. Even when Patrick Mahomes was named the Chiefs’ starter in 2018, Lawrence was in the national spotlight as a bona fide freshman for the Tigers.
The Jaguars quarterback is a national name dating back to his historic high school career, where he dominated the competition and ran himself early to become the future No. 1 overall .

Lawrence attended Cartersville High School in Georgia before heading to Clemson.
Lawrence has already established himself as Cartersville’s most notable alumnus, but the school has also produced former NFL running back Ronnie Brown, multiple MLB first-round picks and a former governor of Georgia.

Clemson furthered the lofty expectations by earning Lawrence’s commitment at the end of his junior season and posting a 41-to-1 touchdown interception ratio as a senior.

Lawrence pitched at the professional level as a teenager, so it’s no surprise he was able to lead Clemson to a national championship just one year after finishing high school.

Why did Trevor Lawrence choose Clemson?
Despite growing up a fan of Tennessee football, Lawrence’s decision ended up in Clemson and nearby Georgia.
When narrowing the list down to two, Lawrence told 247Sports that Clemson “has some good receivers coming in,” adding, “They always recruit well for the position.”
A good prospect said he was happy with both schools and would fit both offenses. Lawrence’s offensive arsenal at Clemson included Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, Hunter Renfro, Amari Rogers and Justin Ross.

Lawrence’s commitment to Clemson coincided as the Tigers climbed to the top of the college football mountain.
As he narrowed his decision down to Clemson and Georgia, the program appeared in the national title game, and the Tigers won their first national championship three weeks after Lawrence’s commitment in December 2016. A true freshman.
Georgia then climbed the mountain and won back-to-back national titles, but one can’t help but think that had Lawrence played in Athens, the Bulldogs’ reign of dominance under Kirby Smart would have begun even sooner. Hmm.
