Vantage Career Center board holds first meeting of 2023

VAN WERT — The Vantage Career Center School Board attended its first meeting of 2023 on Thursday evening.

The board passed the 2024 tax budget, held an organizational meeting, and re-elected Pat Bauml as chairman.

Ronnie Nederman was re-elected Vice President.

Four Directors were elected and began their three-year terms.

They include Robin Etter from the Continental School, Michelle Gorman from the Lincolnview School, Kim Wannemucker from the Otteville School and Tim Fitzpatrick from the Jennings School. This is Fitzpatrick’s first year on his Vantage board of directors.

In other businesses, the Board of Directors:

• Approved additional contracts with Scott Shardelow and Brenda Wurst as adult banquet employees.

• Recruited Michael Dirr as an AE Police Academy instructor.

• Recruited Marsha Stechschulte as an AE STNA Instructor.

• Accepted a new minimum wage of $10.10 an hour.

• Approved a customized hourly rate of $200 per hour for adult education.

• Approved out-of-state travel for Larry Davis and Auto Tech Program students and Dan Edward and Auto Body Program students to attend Detroit Autorama Student Day on February 24 in Detroit, Michigan.

• Out-of-state and overnight trip approved by Theresa Mengerink social studies instructor to attend the Teach American History Multi-Day Seminar on April 28 in St. Louis, Missouri.

• Accepted a $660 donation from The Marsh Foundation to the Vantage Construction Equipment Program.

• Accepted an estimated $350 worth of Matrix hair color donations from Van Wert Smart Style to the Vantage Cosmetology Program.

• Received a donation of $560 from The Robert (Bob) Ricker Memorial to the Vantage Carpentry and Construction Equipment Technology Programs.

• Approved by Qualls Mechanical Services, LLC to replace ECE classroom heat pumps for $24,998.

The board also entered an executive session to consider personnel matters. No action was taken.

The Board’s next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00 pm.
