Wesley Butler scores 1,000th career point for Kutztown University in men’s basketball win over Seton Hill

To help the Golden Bears beat Seton Hill 91-77 in a crossover game at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in Greensburg on Monday, read Kutztown senior high school graduate Wesley Butler, who said he scored the 1,000th point of his college career.

Butler, who scored 998 points, hit a 3-pointer from the left with 16:07 remaining in the first half to give Katztown a 7-5 lead. The 6-0 guard became the 28th player in school history to reach the milestone.

He finished with 10 points and had 1,008 points (16.8 points per game) in 60 career games. It’s his third season on the court after the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the pandemic. He scored 1,317 points in his Reading High career.

Butler’s 3 was part of the Golden Bears’ 14-0 run (3-1, 3-6) that turned a 5-2 deficit into a 16-5 lead. KU extended their run to 34-5 and went up to 36-10 with 7:30 left in the first half.

The Griffins (1-2, 6-3) cut to 5 twice in the second half but could not come close.

Jalen Bryant scored a career-high 29 points to lead Kattstown. Golden for the Bears, Robert Tucker had his 18 points, Cameron Roberts his 13, and Josh Samek his 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Jennette recorded his 10 assists.

Ryan Mythe led the Griffins with 24 points.


Kutztown 67, Seton Hill 55: In Greensburg, the Golden Bears (3-1, 5-5) use a ferocious 3-point shot in the 3rd quarter to break through close quarters en route to a PSAC crossover victory over the Griffins I did (2-2, 9-4).

Kutztown led 26-23 early in the third round, but made five 3s in their next seven possessions to fuel a 15-3 run and take it to 41-26. The lead never fell below double digits until the end.

The Golden Bears went 6-8 on 3-pointers in the third round and 13-26 overall.

Annie Whalen made 6-of-9 3-pointers to lead KU with 18 points. Abby Hahn had 14 points and Casey Remolde had 12 points and eight rebounds. Hahn he was 3 seconds he was 2 for 2 and Remolde he was 2 for 3.

Yuri Seto leads Seton Hill with 20 points.
