The Hawks picked up some big individual wins this week, each contributing to progress for the team. (Note: Eligible events December 5-11)
Men’s basketball (3-2)
Finding an early rhythm, Woodward won back-to-back wins against Glidden Ralston (0-3) and Woodward Academy (0-3) on December 5 and 6, making it one of the team’s biggest wins in the past few seasons. I have marked some. .
Over the course of two games, Austin Taylor led the Hawks with a total of 32 points.He also recorded a double-double against Glidden Ralston. Dane Polich also reached double figures in both games, with 23 points combined and Brody Nardini with 24 points. His 16 points for Carter Moran against the Academy were most of the night and helped avenge his 1-point loss against the Knights in the last game.
With such momentum, it was a bad week for the Hawks to host Madrid on Friday (3-1) in a 79-46 loss. Women’s Basketball (1-5)
This week could be a turning point for the Hawks, who were three possessions away from two wins.
After holding the lead against Glidden-Ralston in the first quarter, the wheels fell off as the Wildcats took a 28-19 lead at the halftime break. Addie Lego scored his team-high 20 points and the Hawks closed the gap in the second half, but at the final buzzer he came close to 51-48. Grace Deputy also maintained the lead with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Deputy played another game of 20/10 in their next match (2-3) against Madrid on Friday. However, her performance was limited to her 47-43 loss as the Tigers maintained her 19-6 lead in the first quarter. With her assist, Lexi Bogardas scored her 8 points and added 4 assists.

The Hawks left Colfax Mingo on 6 December with three wins after defeating Perry (46-24), Colfax (66-12) and Ogden (49-30). With such a dominating quad performance, the six Hawks were undefeated that night.
3-0 on the night were Alex Saxton (120 lbs), Peyton Nixon (138 lbs), Blake Toole (152 lbs) and Terrin Lawrenson (170 lbs). Holden Hurd (132) and Colby Fogarty (182) were his 2-0 with additional forfeits to widen the Hawks’ winning margin.
Hurd recorded the shortest time on the mat of the night with a 21-second victory over Perry.

On Saturday, the Hawks returned to the mat in Ogden, where Nixon recorded his 100th career win. He won 4-1 on the day, but last season he only lost to 2A runners-up McKinley and Robbins by decision 7-2.
As the Bulldogs team in the fifth place play-off, the Hawks won 40-39, their second win in a week against their conference opponents.
